What is the fee rate for cashing a check? The fee depends on the state, the type of check, and the store. SAM check cashing fee rates are typically between 1-5%. You'll see the exact fee amount on-screen before confirming your transaction.
What type of ID do you accept? SAM check cashing kiosks accept driver's licenses, state IDs, Veteran IDs, Military IDs, tribal IDs, Mexican IDs, Matricula Consular Cards, Canadian IDs, student IDs, and more. We do not accept expired IDs.
Do I have to sign up before visiting a kiosk to cash my check? There is no pre-registration required to cash a check at a SAM Machine. Simply visit any of our retail locations nationwide and follow the on-screen instructions to cash your check(s).
Why isn’t my check cashing? To ensure the security and validity of your check, we perform verifications that may occasionally delay or prevent immediate cashing. Cashing might be slower on weekends, nights, or for your first check with us. But once we know you, it'll be faster next time! SAM Machines do not accept checks 21 days past the issue date.
Can I cash a personal check? Because fraud is so common with personal checks, we do not cash them.
Can I cash a cashier's check? Because fraud is so common with cashier's checks, we do not cash them.
Can I cash a money order? Because fraud is so common with money orders, we do not cash them if they are over $500.
If the machine doesn’t cash my check, will it be marked? No, your check will not be marked.
Is there a maximum amount for cashing a check? We can cash checks of any amount. However, for checks exceeding $10,000, federal regulations require us to collect your Social Security Number and occupation for verification purposes.
Can I cash a check at any SAM Machine? Yes! Once registered in the SAM system, you can cash your check in less than 60 seconds at any of the 400+ SAM Machines nationwide.
Why isn’t my thumbprint scanning? Place your finger on the scanner and hold until the first box shows a green check. Then, lift your finger and place it back down on the scanner in the same position until the second box shows a green check as well. Repeat until all boxes show a green check.
